How long could your
garage door springs last?

Estimate cycle-based spring life from your everyday use.

One full opening and closing = 1 cycle. Leaving home and returning usually totals 2 cycles. Use your average across all days of the week.

10,000 cycles is the standard rating for most garage doors. Some doors have different ratings; use the rating confirmed by your supplier or installer if known. Two springs do not double the cycle rating.

Use time since spring replacement, not the age of the door. Remaining life assumes the same daily use throughout.

An estimate, not a condition assessment or a prediction of when a spring will break. Actual life varies with spring specification, installation, door balance, corrosion and use. Corrosion caused by water ingress, high humidity and especially coastal salt air can significantly shorten the lifespan of garage door springs. A spring can fail before or after its rated cycles. This tool does not calculate spring size or tension. Never adjust or replace garage door springs yourself.
